Handmaiden is based on an old ceramic hand used by glovemakers, glovieres, glovsters or whatever they are/where called. I deciced not to change the actual hand much, I considered smashing it and rebuilding it as part of the process, but I couldn't find any good reason to violently deconstruct this old tool, so instead I decided to clothe the hand that had been used to make clothes years and years ago but never actually had any clothes... Not that my fashionable contribution is haute couture - it's mainly old socks (they have an amazing texture) and some duct tape (which has an equally amazing texture - especially combined with the sock-texture.) This object was made in the summer of 2007 and is probably the beginning of my fascination with knitted structures. For sale
